Year 13 Accounting

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Ms M. Greyling.

Choose accounting for a world of opportunities. From versatile careers and financial literacy to global prospects and problem-solving skills, accounting equips you for success in business and life.

This course assists students in cultivating the ability to make well-informed decisions and nurtures the growth of robust analytical skills and critical thinking capabilities that are applicable in both professional and personal spheres.

We study Partnerships, Companies and Manufacturing businesses in practical situations.

A study of a current publicly listed New Zealand company is undertaken as part of this course.

Course Overview

Term 1
* Partnership - We study the start-up of a Partnership, legal and Accounting
knowledge we need to be aware of.
* Job cost subsystem - This AS is about calculating the cost of a specific job and
working out what the selling price of a product should be. In every business this is
important as it means the difference between success or liquidation of a business.

Term 2
* Companies - We study legal requirements of a company, issuing of shares, cash
flow statements, etc.
* Report - Once we have studied Companies we then do an in-depth study of a
current publicly listed New Zealand company and write a report. The report is for
either a future employee or a person who wants to become a shareholder of the
company.

Term 3
* Decision making - We study budgets, calculating break-even points and then
decide whether we should expand a business. So it is all future focus.
* Revision - getting ready for Derived Grade Exams.

Term 4
* Revision - looking at Derived Grade Exams we then focus on areas where we need
help, so we can go into the exam as confident as possible.
