Year 9 Digital Art

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs K. Saunders.

Why study Digital Art? Firstly, perhaps the most important reason to take Year 9 Digital Art – is that it is FUN!

Creativity is essential in a global economy that needs a knowledgeable, imaginative and innovative workforce. Making and participating in the Creative Arts aids the development of skills that will be necessary for our ākonga (students) futures. Leading people in any field are those who can think creatively and innovatively. Studying the creative arts teaches determination and resilience – qualities useful to any career. It teaches us that it is okay to fail, to not get things right the first time and to have the courage to start again.

Not to mention, it is always hands-on! This course promotes motivation to learn by emphasising active engagement, diligence and creative risk-taking. Plus we have x1 iPad and Apple Pencil per student!

Year 9 Digital Art introduces ākonga to the basic principles of Photography and digital art-making (photo editing & digital illustration). This course develops students' practical art-making skills through the teaching of a variety of processes with an emphasis placed on ‘learning through doing'. Throughout this course, ākonga can participate in public group art exhibitions: virtual galleries and offsite gallery locations.
