Year 13 Food Technology
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr O. Webb.
Students will develop a portfolio of design ideas through research and will use their ideas to design and manufacture a food product for an charity based external client. Food testing, sensory evaluations and product design, as well as food hygiene and safety make up this course.

We ask that a contribution of $120 is made to cover the take-home component of food for students selecting this course.
Course Overview
Term 1
The students will complete a processing standard on a 3 stage dessert. This includes testing and trialing with the final trial being filmed for assessment.
Term 2
The students will be choosing a Charity and researching a food based issue. They will then work in groups to come up with ideas to solve this issue.
Term 3
The students will now be looking at prototypes and how they are going to make their conceptual design an edible reality.
Term 4
This term is used to complete any outstanding work the students have.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is recommended that students have successfully completed either Level 1 or 2 Food technology or Level 2 Hospitality however this is not essential. Students without these should seek permission from Mr Webb before considering this course.

You will be assessed in this course through all or a selection of the standards listed below.

Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
