Y12/13 Gateway

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mr M. Smith.

Gateway

Gateway is a practical-based learning opportunity that usually consists of a 10-day work placement in an area of interest chosen by the senior student in Year 12 or 13. The Gateway placement is designed to allow students to get real hands-on experience of a possible future pathway.

The 10 days can be experienced 1 day per week for a term with a mix of consecutive days also during school holiday time if more appropriate.

Students who choose the Gateway Option need to also study up to 20 Credits in work-based or industry-approved areas. These credits can also be used to complete NCEA Level 2 and 3.

Aquinas College is funded for up to 40 Gateway students each year so certainly an opportunity to look forward to.

Gateway is an option for any student who wishes to discern future pathway options. We have had a wide variety of student placements. Students who have participated in Gateway have gained paid employment and apprenticeships. They have also had a clearer university and or further tertiary study direction.

See the Future Pathways staff if you are interested in this Option.
